Yanks and Sox Fatigue

I know this blog is dedicated to this rivalry, but I'm just not up for it this go around. The game tonight will probably be rained out anyway. It's just too exhausting, and I can't stand the 4 hour games. Beckett and Burnett will probably be out of the game by the 4th inning. Final score: Sox 13, Yanks 12. Total game time- 5:43.

Anyway, here's an interesting article about the evolution of the walk in baseball from my favorite sports writer. More specifically, it's about how attitudes about walking have changed through out the history of baseball.

Beckett was absolutely filthy tonight. Did you see those curveballs?!

He was, which negates my "how embarrassing Burnett The Sox Killer has been" post I was thinking of doing.

Yanks usually hit him but tonight he was nasty. I can only fear what Wang brings to the mound tomorrow. Hopefully it's just an ugly slugfest with Wakefield opposing him.

Wakefield isn't really effective against the Yankees anymore. Guys like Jeter and Posada have been facing him for over a decade, and even A-Rod, Cano, and Damon have been facing him for 4 or 5 years.

When you see the knuckleball that often, it becomes just another pitch.

When Beckett is keeping the curve ball down and throwing it for strikes, there's no hitting him. There was a sequence where he threw about 7 straight. That's the only pitch A-Rod saw all night.

On another note, Papi is quietly on a 7 game hitting streak. He may not hit 35 HR's again, but if he starts hitting a bit, look out.

Last night was the first time I saw Daniel Bard. Holy Hell. He just made the best bullpen in baseball untouchable. He was touching 100 on the gun and it looked like he was playing catch with V-Tek. And then the slider in the mid 90's NASTY. Now I know how Yankee fans felt when Joba came up.

Yeah. I saw him for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It does look promising.

Bard has an arm on him that's for sure. They always talked about him having some control problems but I have yet to see any at the big league level. If he has those straightened then Papelbon could be looking for a job in a few years when he gets close to free agency.
