Sabathia and Yanks near a Deal

The Yanks and CC Sabathia are close to finishing a 7 year $160 million deal. That is a lot of years and money for a guy who is over-weight and has thrown literally 500 innings the past 2 seasons. This deal might work out for the Yanks, but those factors have got to be in the back of Cashman's head. When we look back in 5 years, Johan Santana might look like a bargain compared to Sabathia in dollars and players even though the Mets gave up some prospects.

You may be right Joe, but the Yanks had little choice. They needed a big splash and thats what Sabathia is. They wont abuse him like the Indians or the Brewers so I think he will manage to keep his left arm attached to his body.

I'm more worried about the idea of them giving Burnett 5 years.

I heard Burnett has been hanging out with C pavano in Florida. They are comparing notes on how to steal from the yankees. in two years the yanks won't be able to trade burnett for a pair of socks and half a tube of bengay. Come on cash give him 5 years. While you are at it give ben sheets 3 years.

It seems like the Yanks really over paid though. Not in the sense that CC won't still be a premiere pitcher, but they really paid way over market value. If the Brewers offered $100 million, couldn't the Yanks have offered $125 million and go from there?

I think the Yanks gave him what they had too. If they offered him money in the same range of a Milwaukee or within striking distance of a california team I don' think he would have signed with them. And from what I read it looks like they would be more likely to sign Lowe than Burnett. They Braves are big on AJ. I do like the fact that Pettitte can't be a jerk anymore. Yanks don't need you Andy so stop trying to jack up the price after they stood by you last offseason.
