NESN Daily

After about 15 seconds I was able to come to this conclusion about NESN's new nightly sports news program featuring comely blonde Jade (can't possibly be the real first name of a 40-year-old woman) McCarthy and Uri Berenguer. It's horrifying. I think the goal is for Uri to identify with the commonwealth's broham demographic. "No one's pawsibly gonna compete wit da Pats, brah!" And Jade's purpose is ... I'm not sure. Do we need more sports news of any kind? I think we've reached critical mass. (Oops. Guess I just gave you some sports news right there.)

ANYHOO... does anyone think that Carlos Degado's arrival means anything. If he hits over .230 I'll eat my hat. I guess the Sox just need bodies at this point. I'm actually feeling like they're going to make a run pretty soon, but I'm certain it will fall short.

I think it means no risk, and a possible big reward. They are not going to take on some huge, long term contract to replace injured guys for a month.

Yea that's the Sox "big" pick up. Theo is punting this season. If they get back in it they get back in it, but he wasn't going to trade young players for a rental to try and make a push. Of course Cashman proved you don't need to give up talent if you are willing to take on money which the sox could do but for some reason refuse to.

I believe and correct me if I am wrong, but they were hedging the Salty deal with Delgado to make sure they had an extra 1st baseman. The reality is the trade market sucked this year. I think Theo is saving his cabbage for Cliff Lee.

You wish Joe. Theo has thoroughly proven he wont pay top dollar. If it turns into a bidding war between the yanks and the sox, Boston will bitch out first.

I have to agree with Pete, Joe. That's what we all thought about Teixeira two years ago and I'm still mad at Theo for blowing that one. He is no longer the young, brash GM prodigy. He and the Sox are only slightly less miserly than most other teams in contention.

Slightly less Miserly eh?

Red Sox payroll is $162 million, $16 million more than the 3rd place club, and the same as the Rays, Rangers, and Padres (2 division leaders and AL wild card leader) combined.

The reason those teams are good, is because they held on to their young players and augmented the team with veterans. The Yankees' best players this year have been Cano and Jeter, both homegrown.
