Ominous Signs for Red Sox

The Red Sox, refreshed and rejuvenated after the All-Star break, just showed how good they're feeling by getting blown out two games in a row at home by the Rangers. This is a series the Sox really needed because after this comes the kiss of death, the ten game west coast road trip (cue the foreboding organ music). I don't see how the Red Sox can survive this trip and still remain a viable contender with the Rays and Yanks. They're just too banged up.

In other cheerful news, is Jacoby Ellsbury going to be a factor this year? Apparently he's going to be back soon, but I've heard that one before. In any case, I'm really sick of these rotating scrubs in the outfield. Josh Beckett is finishing up his rehab too. I don't have high hopes for him and his 7.00 ERA either. Someone needs to give these guys some V a la True Blood.

At least there is one Red Sox fan who is based in reality. If you were to listen to ESPN, it would seem as though the Sox are about to runaway with the division.

They constantly drone about how amazing it is that Boston is still in the race with all these injuries, when the reality is they are 7-8 since pedroia went down and they are fading fast.

Sure they could make a run when everyone gets back but I'm betting it will be too late by then.

The sad thing is that they might miss the playoffs, but have a better record than the Central or West winner. But MLB will never allow a realignment plan that would actually allow the 4 best teams in the playoffs. This year you could be alienating 75% of the country.

The Sox play Oakland & Seattle on this trip and they both stink. They are 3.5 back will 70 games to play. 70!! They will still win 91-95 games, so everyone needs to relax. In honor of my marathon training here is an analogy for everyone:Baseball season @ 92 games played is equal to the 14.5 mile marker of a marathon.

Please note: 3.5 games of a playoff spot not the division.
